Summer in the City
___________________

Summertime has finally begun and many cultural events in Berlin are waiting for you. The Kulturforum of Berlin also shows its very best side. Various special exhibitions and the great permanent exhibitions in the Painting Gallery (Gemäldegalerie) and the Museum of Decorative Arts (Kunstgewerbemuseum) are indeed presenting various special exhibitions as well as great permanent exhibitions for all tastes.
After a visit of the Kulturforum, why don´t you walk over Potsdamer Platz and the Regierungsviertel or take a rest in the Tiergarten park?
Please keep in mind that the State Museums of Berlin (SMB) are closed on Mondays. On Thursdays you can visit many of them (also at the Kulturforum) for free between 6 and 10 pm. We also recommend the numerous guided tours.
Our website kulturforum-berlin.info is a private initiative and is therefore a non official information service. We unfortunately cannot give you any binding information about the institutions at the Kulturforum. Please do not hesitate to send us a mail if you need some general information.

Museum of Decorative Arts remains open
_______________________________________________

The Museum of Decorative Arts (Kunstgewerbemuseum) remains open. The plans for redesigning the exhibition rooms have been postponed and for this reason the fantastic collection of decorative arts can be still visited - among others, the Welfenschatz, epoch-making furnitures and fashion. Although looking forward to the realisation of the redesigning-plans in the near future we are glad that, due to the delay of the construction works, one of the most important collections of its kind will be still accessible for the time being.

Posters and Graphic Design by Ott and Stein
The special exhibition (20 March - 15 June 2008) is arranged by the art library at the Kulturforum and offers an insight into the diversity of graphic works which Nicolaus Ott and Bernard Stein produced during thirty works of their working together. The exhibits are characterised by a clear-cut articulation of text and image within a balanced structure of form. Script and picture are carriers of information and forms carrying meaning at the same time.
With their posters and book designs, Ott and Stein provided new impulses in graphic design, earning themselves a reputation on an international level as well. They lent a new face to numerous institutions, including the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (National Museums in Berlin).

Imagination and Craft. Cennino Cennini and the Tradition of Tuscan Painting from Giotto to Lorenzo Monaco
This studio exhibition in the Gemäldegalerie presents until the 13th of April some twenty panels and drawings from the 14th and 15th century. The thematic framework is provided by the work of Tuscan artist Cennino Cennini, author of the "Libro dell´ Arte" (" Book of Art"), a late Mediaeval painters´ handbook on the cusp of the Renaissance. Two panels from the collection of the Gemäldegalerie - Old Master Paintings, a "Bishop Saint" and a "Pope Saint", are attributed to Cennini. These, together with the earliest known copy of the "Libro dell´ Arte, form the heart of the exhibition. Further included are works by Giotto, Taddeo Gaddi, Agnolo Gaddi, and Lorenzo Monaco.

22nd Long Night of Museums

The 22nd Long Night of Museums centred upon the topic TIME - Zeit reaching from all kinds of time measurement to computation of time, from chronos-time flowing along- to kairos -the (right) moment of time. The versatile meanings of the term was presented by the museums of Berlin in the traditionally high quality and with additional programs.
For the first time, "Kulturforum at Potsdamer Platz" was the logistic centre of the event. From here the five busshuttle-routes started to the participating museums all around Berlin and here, of course, you could buy the tickets, find out the latest news or take a little break by enjoying warm snacks.

The light-installation „Time Fades” on the piazzetta by the artist Philipp Geist was one of the most fascinating temporary attractions. The next (23rd) Long Nights of Museums will follow in August 2008.
We put some snapshots of the 22nd Long Night of Museums in our picture gallery.
